In This Article We Are Going To Cover How Properties Of Concrete Affected By Quality Of Water In Construction

•Water is one of the most important element in construction and it is required for the preparation of mortar, mixing of cement concrete and Curing work.
•The quality of water used has a direct impact on the strength of the mortar and cement concrete in construction work.
•The water used for mixing and curing must free from high quantities alkalies, acid, oil, sugar, salt, organic materials and vegetable growth because it harmful for bricks, concrete and iron.
•Impurities in water can cause the metallic corrosion introducing unwanted salt and clay into the concrete.
•That affect the hardening process of concrete and it also reduce the strength by 25%.
*Conditions :-
a) To neutralize 100 ml sample of water using phenolphthalein as an indicator. It should not require more than 5 ml of 0.02 N NaOH.
b) To neutralize 100 ml sample of water, using mixed indicator, it should not require more than 25 ml of 0.02 N H₂SO₄.
c) Average 28 day compressive strength of at least 3 cubes of 150 mm prepared with water proposed to used shall not less than 90 percent of the average of strength of 3 similar concrete cube prepared with distilled water.
* pH value of water shall be not less than 6.
*Mixing or curing of concrete with sea water is not recommended because of presence of harmful salts in sea water.
*Under unavoidable circumstances sea water my used for mixing or curing in plain concrete.
