CHEMICALS USED IN BRICK MAKING

In This Short Article We Covers,

Which Chemicals Used In Brick Making, Their Percentage And Purpose.

Mainly Five Chemicals Used In Making Of Bricks, Like Silica, Alumina, Lime.

Let Us See One By One With Their Percentage, And Purposes.

SILICA:-

CHEMICALS USED IN BRICK SILICA

Silica Represented By “Si O2” Silica Is Available In Maximum Percent In The Mixture.

Percentage And Purpose:-

Almost 50 To 60 Percentage (%) Of Silica Used In Bricks, It Helps To Prevent Cracks Shrinkage And Warping Of Raw Bricks, It Gives Uniform Shape Means Decreases Shrinkage Possibilities.

NOTE– Excessive Amount Of Silica Will Destroy the Cohesion Between Particles And Bricks Become Brittle.

ALUMINA:-

CHEMICALS USED IN BRICK ALUMINA

Alumina Represented By “Al2 O3” Second Most Percentage Availability In Brick.

Percentage And Purpose:-

Almost 20 To 30 Percentage (%) Of Alumina Used In Bricks, It Helps To Import Plasticity In Mixture So As To Molded Easily

NOTE– Excessive Amount Of Alumina Used In Brick Manufacturing/Making Causes Increase In Shrinkage During The Drying Period Of Bricks.

LIME:-

CHEMICALS USED IN BRICK LIME POWDER

Lime Represented By “CaO” Few Amount Percentage Of Available In Mixture.

Percentage And Purpose:-

Almost 4 To 5 Percentage (%) Of Lime Used in Bricks, As Silica Reduces Shrinkage, Lime Also Help To Prevent Shrinkage.(Percentage Of Lime Should Be Less Than 10)

NOTE- Excessive Amount Of Lime Uses, Molded Brick Will Start Melting And Distorted During Burning Process.

IRON OXIDE:-

CHEMICALS USED IN BRICK IRON OXIDE

Iron Oxide Represented By “Fe2 O3” Few Amount Of Percentage Available In Mixture.

Percentage And Purpose:-

Almost 5 To 6 Percentage (%) Of Iron Oxide Used In Brick Should Be Less Than 7 %, Use Of Iron Oxide In Bricks Helps To Increase Strength Of Brick, Iron Oxide Gives Red Color To Mixture Or Brick.

NOTE- Excessive Amount Of Iron Oxide Gives Blue Or Blackish Color, Precaution Should Be Taken While Adding Iron Oxide So As To Proper Red Color Appears On Brick.

MAGNESIA:-

CHEMICALS USED IN BRICK MAGNESIA

Magnesia Represented By “MgO” Few Amount Of Percentage Available In Mixture.

Percentage And Purpose-

Use Of Magnesia In Brick Should Be 1 Or Less Than 1 Percentage (%), Use Of Magnesia In Brick Manufacturing/Making Gives Slightly, Yellow Color To Brick And Also decrease Shrinkage.

NOTE- Use Of Excessive Amount Of Magnesia Decay of Brick’s (Brick Crushed, Brick Become Powder)

ALKALI:-

Alkali Represented By “Na2 O + H2O” Few Amount Of Percentage Available In Mixture.

Percentage And Purpose-

Alkali Percentage In Brick Should Be Less Than 10 Percentage (%)

NOTE- Use Of High Percentage Of Alkali In Mixtures Causes Efflorescence, Means Swelling Of Mixture.
