  • Transportation of concrete
  1. Transporting the concrete mix is defined as the transferring of concrete from the mixing plant to the construction site
  2. As a general rule of thumb 30 to 60 minute of transportation are acceptable on a small job that is PCC work, filling of starter etc.
  3. At Central or portable ready mix plant concrete should be discharge from the truck mixer within 2 hours
  4. If non agitating transporting equipment is used then this time is reduced to 1 hour
  5. After mixing concrete shall be transported to the formwork as rapidly as possible by methods which prevent the segregation or loss of the ingredients.
  6. Main objective in transporting concrete is to ensure that the water cement ratio, slump or consistency, air content and home virginity are not modified from there intended states.
  7. During hot and cold weather, concrete shall be transported in deep containers, other suitable methods to reduce the loss of water by evaporation in hot weather and heat loss in cold weather may also be adopted.
  • Placing of concrete
  1. The concrete shall be deposited as nearly as practicable in its final position to avoid rehandling.
  2. The concrete shall be placed and compacted before initial setting of concrete is start and should not be subsequently distributed.
  3. Method of placing should be such as preclude segregation.
  4. It Should be taken to avoid displacement of reinforcement or moment of formwork.
  5. As a general rule of guidance the permissible free fall of concrete may be taken as 1.5 m. ( it should not be more than 1.5)
