In This Article We Are We Are Going To Cover Various Types Of Beams Used In Construction Of Buildings, Bridges And Any Other Structures.
Basically Types Of Beam Classified As Follows
BASED ON SUPPORT:-
Simply Supported Beam
A Beam Supported On The Ends Which Are Free To Rotate And Have No Moment Resistance.
A simply supported beam is a type of beam that has pinned support at one end and a roller support at the other end.
Depending on the load applied, it undergoes shearing and bending.
It is one of the simplest structural elements in existence. The following image illustrates a simply supported beam.
Fixed Beam
A Beam Supported On Both Ends And Restrained From Rotation.
A fixed beam end moments are reaction moments developed in a beam member under certain load conditions with both ends fixed.
Overhanging Beam
A Simple Beam Extending Beyond It’s Support On One End.
A overhanging beam, the bending moment is positive between the supports.
whereas the bending moment is negative for the overhanging portion.
At the same point on the beam, the bending moment is zero or changes sign from positive to a negative value or vice versa.
Double Over-Hanging
A Simple Beam With Both Ends Are Extending Beyond It’s Support Non As Double Over-Hanging Beam.
Follow Below Image
Continuous Beam
A Beam Extending Over More Than Two Supports Non A Continuous Beam.
A continuous beam is a statically indeterminate multi-span beam on hinged support.
The end spans may be cantilever, may be freely supported or fixed supported. At least one of the support of a continuous beam must be able to develop a reaction along the beam axis.
Cantilever Beam
A Projecting Beam Fixed Only One End.
A cantilever beam is anchored at only one end.
The beam carries the load to the support where it is forced against by a moment and shear stress
Cantilever construction allows for overhanging structures without external bracing. Cantilevers Beam can also be constructed with trusses or slabs.
Trussed Beam
A Beam Strenth End By Adding Cable Or Rod To From A Truss.
BASED ON GEOMETRY:-
Straight Beam
Curved Beam
Tapered Beam
BASED ON SHAPE OF CROSS-SECTION
I-Section Beam
T-Section Beam
C-Section Beam
BASED ON MATERIALS
Timber Beams
Steel Beams
Concrete Beams
BASED ON EQUILIBRIUM CONDITIONS
Statically Determinate Beam
If The Reaction Forces Can Be Calculated Using Equilibrium Equations Alone, They Are Statically Determinate Beams.
Statically Indeterminate Beam
If The Reaction Forces Can’t Be Determined Using Equilibrium Equations Only.
